Certifications

Defense and aerospace customers do not take our word for it. They verify. These certifications are what that verification looks like.

Certifications are not wall decorations.

Each certification below carries specific obligations — audits, documentation, process controls, and ongoing compliance. We explain what each one requires and why it matters to you as a customer.

AS9100 Rev D

Aerospace Quality Management System

SAF-HOLLAND / IAQG

AS9100 Rev D is the internationally recognized quality management standard for aviation, space, and defense. It extends ISO 9001 with additional requirements specific to aerospace — risk management, configuration control, product safety, and first-article inspection requirements. Maintaining this certification means every process in our facility is documented, controlled, and regularly audited by an independent third party.

Why It Matters

Required by the major aerospace primes — Boeing, Lockheed, Northrop Grumman, and their supply chains. Without it, you cannot bid the work.

ISO 9001

Quality Management System

International Organization for Standardization

ISO 9001 is the foundational quality management standard — the baseline from which AS9100 builds. It requires a documented quality management system, defined processes, consistent record-keeping, and continuous improvement. Every department in our facility operates under this framework.

Why It Matters

Baseline requirement for government and commercial manufacturing contracts. Demonstrates that our processes are controlled and repeatable.

DCAA

Defense Contract Audit Agency Compliant

U.S. Department of Defense

DCAA compliance means our accounting systems, labor tracking, and cost reporting practices meet the standards required for U.S. government cost-type contracts. Auditors can examine our books and find them organized, accurate, and defensible. This is not a trivial achievement for a small manufacturer.

Why It Matters

Required for cost-plus and time-and-material contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense. Gives the government confidence that billing is honest and traceable.

FDA

FDA Registered Facility

U.S. Food and Drug Administration

Our facility is registered with the FDA for the manufacture of medical device components. This registration reflects compliance with 21 CFR Part 820 Quality System Regulation requirements. We maintain traceability and documentation practices appropriate for Class II and Class III medical device supply chains.

Why It Matters

Required for manufacturing components used in medical devices. Represents the 3% of our revenue that goes into the medical sector.

VOSB

Veteran-Owned Small Business

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Leatherwood Manufacturing is verified as a Veteran-Owned Small Business through the VA's CVE program. Mike Leatherwood served in the United States military before founding this company. The VOSB designation reflects that service and provides access to set-aside contract opportunities for veteran-owned businesses.

Why It Matters

Qualifies the company for veteran set-aside contracting opportunities under FAR and VA procurement programs.

CAGE 1JM49

Commercial and Government Entity Code

Defense Logistics Agency

CAGE Code 1JM49 is Leatherwood Manufacturing's unique identifier in the federal procurement system. It is required for any company doing business with the U.S. government and appears on every contract, purchase order, and shipping document associated with government work. This code traces every part we deliver to every contract we have ever fulfilled.

Why It Matters

Unique government identifier — required on every federal contract and purchase order. Enables the government to track supplier history, certifications, and performance.
